The Godfeather: A Mafia Pigeon Saga to have launch party at SXSW Sydney 2023

Forthcoming video game The Godfeather: A Mafia Pigeon Saga will celebrate its launch with a massive party in Australia.

Revealed today, the launch party will take place during SXSW Sydney on Wednesday, October 18th at Fortress Sydney. This will be the first SXSW event to take place outside of North America. More information about SXSW Sydney can be found here.

Rick Salter of Hojo Studio said this about the upcoming celebration:

“We’re thrilled that The Godfeather will be taking flight at SXSW Sydney. Working with Screen Australia and SXSW Sydney has given us an opportunity to demonstrate how independent creative studios can develop original IP and tell unique stories across a variety of media. For an Indie studio like ours, support from Screen Australia and SXSW Sydney has been instrumental in getting our game to launch.”

Screen Australia Head of Online and Games Lee Naimo also said:

“We’re delighted to have been able to support the extremely talented team at Hojo Studios and the development of The Godfeather. What’s not to love about this light-hearted and entertaining game? With an unruly pigeon at the centre of the gameplay, vibrant graphics and plenty of targets to keep you on your toes – players will be hooked in no time. We’re so excited for this team to be selected for the inaugural SXSW Sydney - it’s next stop before it takes flight to gamers around the globe.”

The Godfeather: A Mafia Pigeon Saga will be released on October 5 via Steam with a Nintendo Switch port coming in 2024. The game can be wishlisted on Steam here. A playable demo is also available.

A synopsis for the game reads:

The Godfeather is a mafia pigeon roguelike combining elements of stealth, open world exploration and poop… lots of poop.

Players take on the role of an associate in the pigeon underworld, tasked with taking back “the old neighborhood” - territory lost to their enemies, both human and bird alike.

The game’s “swoop & poop” gameplay takes place across a series of procedurally generated levels, each featuring a set of targets that need to be “dealt with” pigeon-style to achieve victory, before encountering a deadly area boss.

As the player progresses further, their legend increases among the pigeon underworld - could they be the next Godfeather?
