The five best NYC concerts for the week of October 18, 2021 (High On Fire, Wavves)

Concerts are back in full swing, and music lovers can’t wait to safely check out their favorite artists when they come to town. These are five great concerts going down in New York City from Monday, October 20 through Sunday, October 24.

Wednesday, October 20

High on Fire, Spirit Adrift @ Le Poisson Rouge (7 p.m.) (tickets)

California metal group High On Fire will have a two-night stint inside Le Poission Rouge (night two is on Thursday, October 21). The Grammy-winning band’s last studio album was 2018’s Electric Messiah, which peaked at number five on the Hard Rock Albums chart. Spirit Adrift, who will promote their 2020 album Enlightened in Eternity, and Dysrhythmia, who dropped Terminal Threshold in 2019, will also perform at both shows.

Thursday, October 21

Planning for Burial, J Foley @ Saint Vitus Bar (7 p.m.) (tickets)

Experimental metal act Planning for Burial will perform new and old material at their headlining gig at Saint Vitus Bar. Their last studio album was 2017’s Below the House. J Foley from the Austerity Program and Zen Mother will be the opening acts.

Cumgirl8, Kembra Pfahler @ Knitting Factory (7 p.m.) (tickets)

NYC post-punk band Cumgirl8 will celebrate the release of their new four-song EP RIPcumgirl8 inside Knitting Factory. Joining them for the party are visual artist/musician Kembra Pfahler, performance artist Bobbie Hondo, and NYC newcomers Girldick.

Friday, October 22

Crime In Stereo, Koyo @ Elsewhere (6 p.m.) (tickets)

Long Island hardcore punk act Crime In Stereo will head to Elsewhere for a special headlining gig. This year, the band unveiled their first new material in 11 years with the single “The Good Empire.” The band have been working on the follow-up to their 2010 studio album I Was Trying to Describe You to Someone. Koyo, Hangman, and Become One will also perform.

Sunday, October 24

Wavves, Harmless @ Warsaw (8 p.m.) (tickets)

San Diego indie rock group Wavves will head to Warsaw to promote their new studio album Hideaway, which finds them returning to Fat Possum Records. Harmless (fka Twin Cabins) will be the opening act.
