The five best Los Angeles concerts for the week of May 1, 2023 (Bloodywood, The Warning)

May is officially here, and that means a month of fantastic shows coming through Los Angeles. While people will be celebrating Star Wars Day and Free Comic Book Day this week, others will be looking to catch some live music in the city. These are five shows worth checking out in Los Angeles from Monday, May 1 through Sunday, May 7.

Tuesday, May 2

The Warning, Plush, Holy Wars @ The Regent Theater (tickets)

Hard rock band The Warning kicked off their North American tour this weekend, and they're heading to Regent Theater to support their latest studio album Error. The 14-track release was produced by David Bendeth, who previously worked with fellow hard rock bands such as 12 Stones, Breaking Benjamin, and Clutch. Before The Warning takes the stage, attendees will be greeted by opening sets from two rising Los Angeles bands. Plush, who previously toured with Alice In Chains, Sevendust, and Evanescence, recently unveiled their new single "Left Behind." Holy Wars, who previously hit the road with Scene Queen and Night Club, will be supporting their recent studio album Eat It Up, Spit It Out.

Valley Queen, Madeline Kenney @ Gold-Diggers (tickets)

Los Angeles indie rock band Valley Queen will be headlining Gold-Diggers to celebrate their new studio album Chord of Sympathy, which is out on First City Artists. Oakland indie rock artist Madeline Kenney, whose last studio album was 2020's Sucker's Lunch, will join them as support.

Dawes @ The Theatre at Ace Hotel (tickets)

Los Angeles folk rock band Dawes will take over The Theatre at Ace Hotel for a special night with two sets from the band. Dawes' last studio album was Misadventures of Doomscroller, which was produced by Jonathan Wilson (Father John Misty, Erin Rae). A limited number of tickets are still available for this show.

Mariachi El Bronx, Generacion Suicida @ The Roxy (tickets)

Mariachi El Bronx will rock The Roxy in the midst of their Cinco de Mayo shows in California. The band's last release was Música Muerta, Vol. 1 & Vol. 2, which is a collection of B-sides and rare tracks. Joining them as the opening act are Los Angeles punk band Generacion Suicida, who recently embarked on a trek across the United States with Screaming Females. The band's last studio album was Regeneracion.

Bloodywood, Vended, Wargasm UK @ Echoplex (tickets)

Indian folk metal band Bloodywood are kicking off their U.S. tour this week, and they're making their way to The Echoplex on Sunday. The band will be supporting their latest studio album Rakshak, which earned them the honor of being the first Indian metal band to land on the Billboard charts. Bloodywood will be joined by metal band Vended, who unveiled the singles "Overall" and "Ded To Me" last year, and electro-punk/post-hardcore act Wargasm UK, who will be supporting their latest Explicit: The Mixxxtape EP.
