Los Angeles always has a plethora of events going down at every corner. Whether it’s a convention or some local stand-up comedy, there’s always something to do if you’re looking to leave the house. We look at some of the best events going down in Los Angeles this week (January 15 through January 21).

Thursday, January 18

Friend of a Friend, Alice TM @ Love Song Bar (450 Main St.)
Doors: 7 p.m. (tickets) 21+

Indie rock group Friend of a Friend will make their way to Love Song Bar to promote their forthcoming studio album FACILITIES, which is slated for a March 15 release. Following the release of their 2022 debut album In Arms, Friend of a Friend toured across North America and Europe. The forthcoming album was recorded at Joshua Tree with Jordan Lawlor (M83, J. Laser). Alice TM and Infinity Rose will join them as support.

The Musical Version of: Jurassic Park @ Upright Citizens Brigade (5919 Franklin Avenue)

The Musical Version have been delivering musical renditions of beloved films and TV shows. This Friday, they'll bring a musical version of Jurassic Park with the help of a live band. The cast for this show features Mary Lou, Jiavani, Jack Norman, Philip Labes, and special guests.

Carina Round @ The Echo (1822 W Sunset Blvd.)
Doors: 8 p.m. (tickets)

Carina Round makes their way to The Echo for a two-night stint. While tickets for Thursday's show are sold out, there's still a handful left for their Friday show. The artist will perform their 2003 studio album The Disconnection in full.

Saturday, January 20

Oddities & Curiosities Expo @ Los Angeles Convention Center (1201 S Figueroa St.)
Doors: 10 a.m. (tickets)

The Oddities & Curiosities Expo will take over the Los Angeles Convention Center for a weekend of all things strange and peculiar. Vendors will be present to showcase various intriguing items such as skulls/bones, funeral collectibles, and taxidermy. The event will also feature classes and sideshow performers. Kids ages 12 and under can attend the two-day event for free.

Lydia Loveless, Jason Hawk Harris @ Troubadour (9081 Santa Monica Blvd.)
Doors: 7 p.m. (tickets)

Alternative country artist Lydia Loveless will headline The Troubadour in support of their latest studio album Nothing's Gonna Stand in My Way Again, which sees them returning to longtime record label Bloodshot. Jason Hawk Harris will be the opening act.

Hit Bargain (ex-The Pains of Being Pure at Heart), Gianna Gianna @ Zebulon (2478 Fletcher Dr.)
Doors: 7 p.m. (RSVP) 21+

Hit Bargain, which includes ex and current members of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Cold Beat, and Beach Fossils, will celebrate the release of their new album A Dog A Deer A Seal with a free show at Zebulon. Gianna Gianna and Sarah Register will join them as support.

Welsh post-hardcore band Holding Absence head to the Echoplex in support of their latest record The Noble Art of Self Destruction. Casey, Capstan, and Acres will open the show.

Scene Kids Improv's monthly Punk House Party at The Pack Theater brings a mixture of standup comedy, improv, and live music. For Saturday's show, Evan Harris Blake Rosier, Amy Lieberman, and Max Kerwien will deliver comedy with music from local pop-punk band Cultivate. Scene Kids Improv will have an improv performance with special guests Sydney Burgess, Justin Alexio, and Rebecca Shrom. There’s also free pizza for those who attend.
