Team-based PVP shooter Marvel Rivals announced

Marvel Entertainment is jumping into the world of team-based PVP shooters with their new title.

Revealed today, Marvel Rivals is a joint venture between NetEase Games and Marvel Games. Players will be able to choose from a lineup filled with iconic Marvel heroes and villains in a battle to become the top team. Aside from exciting team-up attacks, the game will also feature destructible environments. An announcement trailer can be seen below.

Jay Ong, Head of Marvel Games said this about the game:

“Marvel Rivals is one of our most ambitious game development projects. Since the conceptualization of the game and throughout our collaboration, our Marvel team has poured our hearts and souls into this project, and we are thrilled to work with the incredible team at NetEase Games to help deliver the ultimate Super Hero team-based PVP shooter.”

Marvel Rivals producer Stephen Wu also said:

“We are overjoyed to bring Marvel Rivals to players around the world. We have always loved Marvel’s universe and its characters, and we are so excited to be developing this game. This is the game we want to make, and we feel very lucky to be the team who made all of this come true.”

A synopsis for the game reads:

The merciless clash between tyrannical dictator Doctor Doom and his future counterpart from the year 2099 has forced countless universes to collide in the Timestream Entanglement, creating new worlds and crises unknown.

Now, Super Heroes and Villains from across the multiverse must fight together and against one another as disparate groups each seek to best both Dooms before one achieves domination of these realities. Familiar faces become newfound foes while former enemies become the greatest of allies in Marvel Rivals!

While no release date is confirmed, a closed alpha will go down in May. Interested players can sign up for the closed alpha here. Marvel Rivals will be released on PC via Steam and the Epic Game Store.
