This summer, the X Games will have its first in-person event in Southern California since 2013.

Announced on Wednesday, X Games 2023 finals will go down at Ventura County Fairgrounds and Event Center in Ventura from Friday, July 21 - Sunday, July 23. The event officially begins San Diego on Sunday, July 16 with Real Street and Real BMX Best Trick contests taking place. A special kick-off launch party is also slated to take place in Los Angeles before the finals begin.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public next Wednesday (May 10) at 9 a.m. PST. Those looking to purchase tickets can sign up for the waitlist here.

Ventura Mayor Joe Schroeder said this about the announcement:

“Our city has a long history of supporting big events, and it is an honor to be selected by the X Games to host this prestigious international competition in July. We look forward to welcoming thousands of athletes and fans to our community and showing the world all the unforgettable things Ventura has to offer.”

Steve Flisler, X Games CEO also said:

“We are thrilled to return to the home of action sports this summer. We are reimagining events along the coast of California and strengthening the fan experience whether you’re watching live in-person or on broadcast. Ventura is rolling out the red carpet. It provides the ultimate ocean and mountain backdrop to showcase never-been-done tricks and the progression of action sports, celebrating the greatest athletes on the planet in their respective disciplines.”

While 2020’s X Games event in Minneapolis was cancelled, the folks behind the event made sure it would still happen when things got a bit better. In 2021 and 2022, the Summer X Games took place at professional training facilities in Southern California with no in-person crowd in sight.

The news comes a week before X Games Japan, which will take place from Friday, May 12 through Sunday, May 14 at Chiba’s ZOZOMarine Stadium. The event’s schedule can be seen here. X Games Japan will be livestreamed on the X Games website, X Games’ YouTube channel, and X Games’ Twitch channel.
