Summer Game Fest and The Game Awards heading to IMAX theaters this year
Summer Game Fest and The Game Awards, which are both produced by Geoff Keighley, will be making their way to theaters this year.
Announced today, both gaming events will be heading to IMAX theaters in the United States, Canada, and the U.K. to give fans another way to catch big video game announcements as they happen.
Keighley said this about the new partnership:
“Video games are the most powerful, immersive and spectacular form of entertainment in the world, so it’s only natural to bring them to fans in IMAX, the world’s most immersive cinema format.”
Megan Colligan, President, IMAX Entertainment and Executive Vice President, IMAX Corp also said:
“We are thrilled to be a part of these rapidly growing events. The two video game events are a part of IMAX’s continued efforts to diversify its content portfolio with more live and interactive events and we are looking forward to being a part of them for years to come.”
Keighley launched Summer Game Fest back in 2020 following the cancellation of E3 due to the pandemic. During this event, developers showcase what they’re putting out this year alongside some Steam demos. Last year’s Summer Game Fest featured the debut of gameplay from Elden Ring along with musical performances from Weezer and Japanese Breakfast. Last year’s Game Awards, which had 85 million livestreams, was the first to be in-person since 2019.
Tickets for Summer Game Fest, which takes place on June 9 at 2 p.m. EST/11 a.m. PST, will go on sale to the general public on May 12 at 12 p.m. EST/9 p.m. PST.
