Sony Interactive Entertainment has backtracked on a controversial update for Helldivers 2.

Today, the company said the May 6 update, which would’ve forced account linking between Steam and PSN for the popular game, has been canceled.

A statement from Sony Interactive Entertainment reads:

Helldivers fans -- we’ve heard your feedback on the Helldivers 2 account linking update. The May 6 update, which would have required Steam and PlayStation Network account linking for new players and for current players beginning May 30, will not be moving forward.

We’re still learning what is best for PC players and your feedback has been invaluable. Thanks again for your continued support of Helldivers 2 and we’ll keep you updated on future plans.

On Thursday, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that Helldivers 2 players would have to link their Steam and PSN accounts. Due to 177 countries not having PSN, sales of Helldivers 2 was banned in those areas, including the Philippines, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, and Cuba. As expected, Helldivers 2 has been review-bombed on Steam with over 267,550 “Overwhelmingly Negative” reviews. One negative review states, “We Dive Together or Not At All.”

Released in February, Helldivers 2 has been one of the year’s most talked about games. Since its release, the game has sold over a combined eight million copies between the PlayStation 5 and PC (via Steam).
