"We're happy to be discovered, but it's too late. What took you so long? We've been doing this for 18 years," SiM vocalist MAH jokingly told a sold-out crowd at the band's headlining performance inside The Echoplex in Los Angeles last night.

While SiM, which stands for Silence iz Mine, have been releasing a slew of records and headlining arenas all over Asia, their status outside of the region wasn't as massive. Fortunately, their single "The Rumbling," which is the theme song for Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 2, gave them a massive boost in popularity with over 200 million combined streams for the shortened TV version and the full song. Much like their performance at Crunchyroll Expo, the band kicked off their set with the theme song, which drew phones from every direction to record the exhilarating moment.

Following the popular anime theme, the band drew cuts from their discography, which dates back to their 2008 self-titled debut album. Songs such as "TxHxC" and "Diamond" brought the already hot crowd to a frenzy with MAH proclaiming, "I don't wanna see a fire because it's boring. I wanna see an explosion."

While SiM are known for their past work in anime (SiM previously recorded songs for the series Shingeki no Bahamut), the band have dabbled in the world of video games. Midway through their set, SiM delivered the songs "A" and "The Sound of Breath," which were both written for the video game Yakuza Kiwami 2. For the encore, SiM bounced their way through tracks such as "Baseball Bat," which found MAH twirling a baseball bat on stage, and "Blah Blah Blah" before capping things off with some wall of death action from the crowd.

While the band had an unforgettable time on stage, it almost didn't happen. Back in 2016, SiM played their first-ever North American show as part of the Ozzfest Meets Knotfest lineup, which also included fellow Japanese rock act Man with a Mission. Performing on the Nuclear Blast stage, SiM were amped to play in front of a massive crowd, but that wasn't the case. According to MAH, around 100 people in an area filled with empty seats watched as the band played their first show on American soil.

Calling the situation "the biggest setback of my life," MAH told the crowd that the band originally had plans to never play in the area again after their performance. Six years later, however, a life-changing involvement with one of the biggest anime series in the world propelled the band to global status. With record labels scouting the band at the show and global tours in the works, SiM's rise to success proves that it doesn't always have to come right away. Sometimes, it comes when you least expect it.
