Brooklyn rock band Razor Braids have transformed a fan favorite.

Today, the band unveiled a remix of “42” done by fellow Brooklyn artist Katie Von Schleicher. An official music video for the new version, which was shot, directed, and edited by Hollye B, can be seen here. A limited-edition cassette release featuring the B-side "Megachurch" can be purchased on Bandcamp here.

Katie Von Schleicher said this about reimagining Razor Braids’ single:

“In re-approaching “42,” we were looking to capture the sound of the band as they’d developed it live over time since their earliest recordings. This song has become a set favorite and grown with the band. There’s a really full dynamic range across the performance and it also beautifully displays Hollye, Jilly and Janie’s voices intertwining.”

Razor Braids’ vocalist Hollye Bynum said this about the song:

"42 is about taking every ounce of courage I had to walk away from a situation when everything in my body was telling me to give up. At its core, it’s really a song about learning what is love and what is not Abuse isn’t love even if someone is saying all the right things. Abuse is just abuse. It was a relationship that made me feel like everything would be terrible forever and that I would never feel good again. But there was this moment, or a collection of moments, where I realized that I wasn’t in a real partnership, I was alone and it wasn’t going to get better and it was up to me to find the strength to leave.”

“42” stems from Razor Braids’ 2021 studio album I Could Cry Right Now If You Wanted Me To. The band have been busy supporting their new studio album Big Wave, which was unveiled back in June.
