Original anime series Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night to debut on HIDIVE this spring

Anime streaming service HIDIVE will deliver an exciting original anime series to North American audiences this spring.

Revealed today, Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night will premiere on the service at a soon-to-be-announced date. The show will have its North American premiere screening at Anime Boston on March 29.

The original series was produced by Doga Kobo, who are best known for their work on Himouto! Umaru-chan, Touken Ranbu, and Oshi no Ko. A manga adaptation of the show will be released through Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket manga app.

A synopsis for Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night reads:

Shibuya is a city full of identity. It is here on Shibuya’s late night streets that illustrator Mahiru Kozuki, former idol Kano Yamanouchi, Vtuber Kiui Watase and composer Mei Kim Anouk Takanashi — four young women who are slightly outside the world — join together and form an anonymous artist group called JELEE. “I” also want to shine like someone else. If it's not me but “we” then we might be able to shine.

John Ledford, President of HIDIVE said this about the new anime series:

“We’re delighted to add Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night to HIDIVE’s Spring 2024 line-up of exclusive simulcast series. With animation by Doga Kobo, the studio behind 2023’s global smash hit Oshi no Ko, this original coming-of-age ensemble drama is sure to be one of top new series of the year. Fans do not want to miss a single episode of Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night!”
