Nintendo 64 classic GoldenEye 007 coming to Xbox and Nintendo Switch

One of the most beloved FPS titles is coming to modern consoles.

At today’s Nintendo Direct, it was revealed that GoldenEye 007 will head to the Nintendo Switch as part of its Nintendo Switch Online service. Minutes later, Rare announced the game will also make its way to Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S as part of Xbox Game Pass. Players with a copy of Rare Replay will be able to grab the game for free.

There will be some differences between both versions, though. The Nintendo Switch version will be a near port of the original game with added online multiplayer. The Xbox version will have achievements alongside updated graphics and controls, but it won’t have online multiplayer. No release date has been set.

Released in 1997, GoldenEye 007 helped make it easier for FPS games to thrive on home consoles. The game is the third best-selling Nintendo 64 title of all time with eight million copies. The game helped launch a spiritual successor with 2000’s Perfect Dark. A remake was released in 2010 on the Nintendo Wii.
