Kendrick Lamar releases new single "The Heart Part 5"
Grammy-winning hip hop artist Kendrick Lamar unveiled their new single “The Heart Part 5” yesterday.
The song is the fifth part of Lamar’s “The Heart” series, which started back in 2010. For the accompanying music video, Lamar transforms into various people, including Will Smith and Kanye West. For the visual, the artist teamed up with deepfake studio Deep Voodoo, which was co-founded by South Park’s Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
The release of "The Heart Part 5" comes days before Lamar drops their new studio album Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers on May 13. The record, which follows Lamar’s 2017 studio album DAMN., will be the final release for the artist with Top Dawg Entertainment. Lamar signed with the record label following the release of their 2004 mixtape Y.H.N.I.C. (Hub City Threat: Minor of the Year).
Kendrick originally posted this about exiting Top Dawg Entertainment last year:
“I spend most of my days with fleeting thoughts. Writing. Listening. And collecting old Beach cruisers. The morning rides keep me on a hill of silence. I go months without a phone. Love, loss, and grief have disturbed my comfort zone, but the glimmers of God speak through my music and family. While the world around me evolves, I reflect on what matters the most. The life in which my words will land next. As I produce my final TDE album, I feel joy to have been a part of such a cultural imprint after 17 years. The Struggles. The Success. And most importantly, the Brotherhood. May the Most High continue to use Top Dawg as a vessel for candid creators. As I continue to pursue my life's calling. There's beauty in completion. And always faith in the unknown. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts. I've prayed for you all. See you soon enough.”
