Inspiral Carpets announce 2023 U.K. tour
Beloved English rock band Inspiral Carpets are coming back with a tour across the U.K. next year.
Announced today, the trek will kick off on March 23 inside Roadmender in Northampton, and it’ll conclude with a stop inside Cheese & Grain in Frome on April 22.
This will be the band’s first shows since the passing of drummer Craig Gill in 2016. In a statement, the band said:
"Craig’s death had a profound effect on many people. The outpouring of love from around the world at the time gave some comfort to his family and friends as we all tried to come to terms with what had happened.
We know this will be an emotional journey for a lot of people, not least Craig’s family. We hope you’ll join us as we celebrate some of the music we created, and which has brought so much joy to people over the last 34 years."
Longtime bassist Martyn Walsh won’t be part of this trek. In a statement, the band said:
“Martyn has decided to opt out of this round of touring for personal reasons. We fully respect his decision & hope everyone else understands. Martyn is very much still a member of the band & the door is open for his return in the future.”
Tour dates can be seen below. Tickets are on sale to the general public this Friday (October 21) at 10 a.m. local time.
Formed in 1983, Inspiral Carpets quickly became one of the U.K.’s most popular alternative rock bands with charting singles such as “Joe,” "Dragging Me Down,” and "Saturn 5.” In the United States, the band achieved success with charting singles "This Is How It Feels," "Commercial Rain," "Caravan," and "Two Worlds Collide."
