Five music acts to catch at NAMM 2024

NAMM Show 2024 will bring together a slew of musicians and producers to the Anaheim Convention Center for a weekend of testing new products, discussions, and networking. There’s also the benefit of seeing a plethora of music acts performing at various stages. We picked five acts worth catching live during the four-day event, which kicks off tomorrow (January 25). Emily V
January 25 (8:00 PM - 8:40 PM) @ Renkus-Heinz Hilton Stage

Los Angeles' Emily V has become one of the most sought after violinists in rock music with performances alongside The Adicts, Acey Slade, Walter Trout, and former Goo Goo Dolls drummer Mike Malinin. When they're not busy collaborating with musicians, the artist is performing all over California as a solo artist. Over the years, Emily V has unveiled a slew of covers on their YouTube channel, including their recent powerful cover of Tool's "Sober."

Turning Jane (fka Black Rock Candy)
January 25 (11:00 PM - 11:40 PM) @ Renkus-Heinz Hilton Stage

While cover band Black Rock Candy have been turning heads with performances at venues such as Whisky A Go-Go, Chain Reaction, and The Viper Room, the group have also been unveiling a slew of original material. Earlier this year, Black Rock Candy revealed their new project Turning Jane, which will continue bringing new tunes under the new moniker. NAMM 2024 will be the official live debut of the all-female Los Angeles rock band.

Harini “Rini” Raghavan has been paving their own way through their brand of Indian jazztronica. The New Jersey-based composer/violinist has worked alongside Andrew Orkin on the score for Netflix's The Fame Game, and they worked on the Grammy nominated album Shuruaat by Berklee Indian Ensemble. Rini closed out 2023 with the release of their latest single "Moon Thuli."

Big Fat Meanies
January 27 (11:00 AM - 11:40 AM) @ Yamaha Grand Plaza Stage

Hailing from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, progressive ska band Big Fat Meanies has been earning praise for their energetic live shows, which earned them the award for Best Rock Band at the 2021 Central Pennsylvania Music Awards. The band previously rocked NAMM back in 2022, and they're looking to do it again with an early Saturday performance. The band's last release was their 2021 EP Bad Hand, which features a collaboration with fellow Lancaster band Carousel Kings. Big Fat Meanies will also perform at The Hotel Café in Hollywood tomorrow (January 25). Tickets for that show are on sale to the general public here.

Plastic Culture
January 28, (2:00 PM - 2:40 PM) @ ADJ Arena Plaza Stage

SoCal alternative rock band Plastic Culture have been quickly gaining momentum since forming in 2018. The five-piece band have been heard on various local radio stations including KROQ and ALT 98.7, and they've shared the stage with acts such as The Violent Femmes and The Skatalites. In the following weeks, Plastic Culture will perform alongside Long Beach Dub All Stars, Everclear, and Smash Mouth.
