Excel to release long lost album 'Seeking Refuge' in July

A rare part of Excel’s catalog will resurface for fans later this month.

Announced today, the band’s 1995 studio album Seeking Refuge will be release digitally and on red vinyl via Southern Lord. The record, which found the band stepping away from their crossover thrash metal delivery for a stoner metal offering, was originally released via Delicious Vinyl/Capitol. After working with producer Randy Burns (Megadeth, Kreator) on their first two albums, the band chose to team up with producer Ron Champagne (Jane’s Addiction, Alice In Chains) for their third studio album.

Excel bassist Shaun Ross said this about the release:

“A lot of people who know EXCEL don’t necessarily know about this record. It’s been out of print since ’95, and it was just kind of forgotten. Between ’90 and ’95, the market for thrash and even punk kinda died with grunge becoming so popular. And we didn’t use our original logo, which in retrospect was a big deal because it didn’t look like an EXCEL record. We fixed that for the reissue.”

The Seeking Refuge reissue can be pre-ordered digitally on Bandcamp here while vinyl pre-orders can be made on Southern Lord’s webstore here.

A new Excel record is slated for a 2025 release. For the new record, longtime Excel members Shaun Ross and Dan Clements will be joined by Take Offense guitarist Greg Cerwonka and Fenix TX drummer Damon DeLaPaz.
