Coachella 2024: Five acts to check out

Coachella will kick off weekend one this weekend, and a plethora of people are still undecided about who to check out during the three-day event. For those going to both weeks or just one, we compiled a list of five acts worth seeing at the popular music festival. Tickets for weekend two of Coachella are still on sale to the general public here.

Clown Core

9:05 p.m. - 9:55 p.m. at Sonora (week one - Friday)

Clown Core will easily deliver one of the most peculiar performances seen at Coachella in years. The experimental grindcore duo blew up on the scene thanks to Adult Swim, and they've continued gaining momentum with their eye-catching music videos. Last year, the band had their first-ever live performances to sold-out rooms around the world (our review of their Los Angeles show can be found here). Their latest release was 2021's 1234.

ATARASHII GAKKO!

9:40 p.m. at Gobi (week one - Sunday)

After gaining accolades from their appearances at Head In The Clouds and Festival Corona Capital, J-pop group ATARASHII GAKKO! will make their Coachella debut. We managed to catch their performance at Crunchyroll Expo back in 2022 where they dazzled the thousands in attendance with their vibrant choreography and infectious charm. Last year, the band made their U.S. TV debut performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live. So far in 2024, the act unveiled three singles, including "Hello" from The Tiger's Apprentice film soundtrack.

Boy Harsher

9:20 p.m. at Sonora (week one - Sunday)

For the past decade, Massachusetts-based darkwave act Boy Harsher have been gaining a slew of fans from goth clubs to random Spotify playlists. Terrifier 2 director Damien Leone managed to show the band some love by including "Pain" in their highly-praised film. This isn't Boy Harsher's only connection to horror films; in 2022, they released their own horror film The Runner alongside its soundtrack, and they released "Burn It Down" from Halloween Ends.

YOASOBI

8:20 p.m. - 9:05 p.m. at Mojave (week one - Friday)

YOASOBI managed to find a massive audience while the world was still trapped inside thanks to the pandemic. Their 2019 debut single "Yoru ni Kakeru" went viral in Japan thanks to TikTok. Anime fans mainly know the act for delivering songs for shows such as Oshi no Ko and Beastars. Oshi no Ko's opening theme "Idol" became one of the best-selling singles of 2023 and topped the Japan Hot 100 for 22 non-consecutive weeks. This week, the act will release their new English-language EP E-Side 3.

Carin León

5:25 p.m. - 6:15 p.m. at Coachella Stage (week one - Sunday)

Mexican artist Carín León is making history this year by being the first Spanish-language artist to play at both Coachella and Stagecoach. 2024 has already been a big year for the two-time Grammy-winning act with their first-ever performance at iconic venue Grand Ole Opry taking place in February. If that's not enough, León will be performing with The Rolling Stones in May. The artist will be promoting their latest studio album Colmillo de Leche, which includes the hit single "Primera Cita."
