One of the hottest franchises will be gaining another shot at a musical adaptation.

Announced yesterday, Attack on Titan will be transformed into a musical thanks to director Go Ueki, who is best known for their work on Hypnosis Mic Division Rap Battle Rule the stage. Taking care of the script is Masafumi Hata, who previously wrote scripts for stage adaptations of Banana Fish, Kino's Journey, and Blue Period. Hip hop artist KEN THE 390 will be the music director with Kaori Miura, who previously worked on Shōjo☆Kageki Revue Starlight: The LIVE Seiran BLUE GLITTER, taking care of the lyrics.

In 2017, an Attack on Titan musical was set to debut, but it was cancelled following the death of 38-year-old acrobat Kazutaka Yoshino.

Original Attack on Titan manga writer Hajime Isayama said this about the play:

“When I heard about this stage adaptation, I was worried because there had been a very sad accident before. However, I believe that the people involved in the stage will be well aware of this and will approach the stage with greater care. With that in mind, I would like to congratulate and look forward to this stage adaptation. More than anything, I am happy that both viewers and creators can enjoy Attack on Titan after the series ended.”

Attack on Titan the Musical will run earlier next year from January 7 to January 9 at Osaka’s Orix Theater and January 14 through January 24 at Tokyo’s Japan Seinenkan Hall. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on November 5.
