Atari acquires Surgeon Simulator franchise via Infogrames
The popular Surgeon Simulator franchise will now be part of the Atari family.
Announced today, Infogrames, which is a game publishing and distribution subsidiary of Atari, has worked out a deal with tinyBuild Inc to acquire the video game franchise. This follows Infogrames’ recent acquisition of Totally Reliable Delivery Service back in April. Atari revived Infogrames in April to acquire IP and publish games outside of Atari’s main catalog.
Infogrames Manager, Geoffroy Châteauvieux said this about the acquisition:
“More than 10 years after the release of the original, Surgeon Simulator remains a popular and unique franchise. This was a rare opportunity to acquire a game with a timeless appeal, and we are excited to have Surgeon Simulator within the Infogrames portfolio.”
Originally created within 48 hours during the 2013 Global Game Jam, Surgeon Simulator became a surprise hit for developers Bossa Studios with two million copies sold within two years of its release. In 2020, Surgeon Simulator 2 was released on consoles and PC.
