Annapurna Interactive acquires South African studio 24 Bit Games

Annapurna Interactive has made their first video game studio acquisition.

Announced today, they revealed the acquisition of South African studio 24 Bit Games, who worked on titles such as Broforce, Gorn, and Gone Home. 24 Bit Studios previously worked with Annapurna on the games Cocoon, Neon White, and Twelve Minutes.

Deborah Mars, Co-Head, Annapurna Interactive said this about the acquisition:

“Annapurna has been working with 24 Bit for many years, and we value not only the caliber of their work, but their team as well. They’ve always shared our commitment to quality, and by taking our partnership to the next level we feel like anything is possible.”

Luke Lamothe, CEO of 24 Bit Games also said:

“We deeply respect Annapurna’s approach to curating a portfolio of great games, its value system around building and extending IP, as well as the company culture. We have truly enjoyed working together over the years, and we believe we are joining Annapurna at an exciting moment of growth and expansion.”

Another statement from 24 Bit Games reads:

Like any career-oriented internet luminary with a growing fan base, I feel it is my responsibility to that fan base to put any trepidation to rest. To answer the question echoing loudest in your mind, this is not some gauche publicity stunt orchestrated to further either party's celebrity. Over the years of working with the fine folks at Annapurna, we have come to know them as wise and kindhearted, inspiring and inspired in equal measure. Their values align closely with our own and while this partnership may seem too perfect to you, from our perspective it is simply an organic and inevitable growth from our current relationship into its new beautiful lepidopterous form.

It pains me to lean on such an obvious cliché but we complete each other. Annapurna with their tremendous experience in the realm of publishing and an ever-expanding roster of incredible games, both available now and coming in the near future. Us with our old-school engineering know-how and scrappy underdog moxie. It is a natural pairing. Mulder and Scully. Cooper and Truman. Squall and Rinoa, except we're definitely Squall because he has a cool jacket and a sick gunblade and Rinoa has an awesome dog that's also a weapon so this is maybe a tougher decision than I'd initially thought it to be. Mountain Dew and Doritos. I could go on ad infinitum.
